The unique cursive nature of Arabic means that a single letter can have up to four different shapes depending on where it appears in a word:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For example, the letter \u0628 (baa) changes its shape, but the base form remains recognizable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are also six letters that are considered “unfriendly” because they do not connect to the letter that follows them. These are \u0627 (alif), \u062f (dal), \u0630 (dhal), \u0631 (raa), \u0632 (zay), and \u0648 (waw). When one of these letters appears in a word, it creates a break in the cursive flow.
