Well, it really is what it looks like. We can split the word Arablish into two: Arab and Lish. Arab is well, from the word Arabic. This is the Arabic language which you are learning at the moment. The other part is Lish. Now this comes from the other half of the word English, minus the Eng part.<\/p>\n
Put two and two together and what do you get? Arablish!<\/p>\n
Anything that is merging these two extraordinary languages together is Arablish.<\/p>\n
How Does It Look Like?<\/h2>\n
Well, there isn\u2019t one form for this. You see one good example would be using numbers as letters. Arabic speakers do this when they want to make a sound that does not exist in English.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s go through the numbers shall we?<\/p>\n
1 is 1 so there is nothing new there.<\/p>\n
2 is a hamza \/A\u2019\/ sound as in \/Ana\/ \/\u0623\u0646\u0627\/ meaning me. In Arablish, it is \/2na\/<\/p>\n
3 is the \/A\u2019in\/ sound as in \/A\u2019krab\/ \/\u0639\u0642\u0631\u0628\/ meaning scorpion. In Arabish, it is \/3akrab\/<\/p>\n
4 is 4, just like the number 1, it is not special in any way.<\/p>\n
5 is the \/Kha\/ sound as in \/Khabeer\/ \/\u062e\u0628\u064a\u0631 meaning expert. In Arablish, it is \/5abeer\/<\/p>\n
6 is the \/T\u2019a\/ sound as in \/T\u2019awela\/ \/\u0637\u0627\u0648\u0644\u0629\/ meaning table. In Arablish, it is \/6awela\/<\/p>\n
7 is the \/Ha\/ sound as in \/Hadeeqa\/ \/\u062d\u062f\u064a\u0642\u0629\/ meaning garden. In Arablish, it is \/7adeeqa\/<\/p>\n
8 is the \/Q\u2019a\/ sound as in \/Q\u2019abeel\/ \/\u0642\u0628\u064a\u0644\u0629\/ meaning tribe. In Arablish, it is \/8abeela\/<\/p>\n
9 is the \/S\u2019a\/ sound as in \/S\u2019adeeq\/ \/\u0635\u062f\u064a\u0642\/ meaning friend. In Arablish, it is \/9adeeq\/<\/p>\n
It Goes Beyond the Numbers<\/h2>\n
Besides using Arabic in English letters, Arablish has more to it. You have verbs like \u201ccancel\u201d and \u201cforward\u201d, as in, to cancel an email or forward one. In the workplace, Arabs have managed to say sentences like: \/Momkin tfarwid el email?\/<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s the breakdown of it:<\/p>\n
\/Momkin\/ as in \u201ccan (you)\u201d<\/p>\n
\/Tfarwid\/ as in \u201cto forward\u201d<\/p>\n
\/El email\/, well this is self-explanatory: the email.<\/p>\n
The same concept applies to \u201ccancel\u201d where the English verb becomes \/etcancel\/.<\/p>\n
Notice that the function of the word, which is a verb, is still a verb. Interestingly enough, the word transforms itself to suit the Arabic language\u2019s syntax. To make it clearer, look at the word \/Zad\/ \/\u0632\u0627\u062f\/ meaning to increase. If were to ask someone, we would say \/Tozawid\/ \/\u062a\u0632\u0648\u062f\/ as in \/Momkin tozawid\/. This sounds the same as \/Etfarwid\/ or \/Etcancel\/.<\/p>\n
