You’ve probably come to this article because maybe you feel a bit stuck in your language acquisition process. Also, maybe you need some learning motivation. Or perhaps you just started studying and want to make sure you keep your spirits up throughout your journey. Regardless of your reasons, all we want to say is that every student goes through this phase at some point.

Have no fear! Kaleela is here to suggest a few mental hacks on how to motivate students.

The secret to starting learning a language and to keep learning it is simple: connect with it emotionally. Every day you sit down to learn, remind yourself why you are learning. Reminding yourself of the reasons why is the most important thing you can do to keep going. One way to do that is by using the S.E.E. (State, Emotion, and Eye) technique – a simple visualization technique that you can use to help you emotionally connect to Arabic.

Here’s how it works:

“S” Stands For State

Your state of mind has a huge impact on how you learn. Also, it influences how you see yourself both in the present and in the future. Being in a positive and optimistic state of mind considerably enhances your learning process. This also includes your capacity to retain information, and your willingness to stay on track). In order to cultivate this helpful mindset, you first should be sure that it is possible to learn Arabic well. You should believe that you can learn the language well, and you should be convinced that you have what it takes to overcome all obstacles in your learning path.

“E” stands for Emotion

There is no learning, no plan and no life without emotion. To make things strong and solid, add emotions to whatever you do. Often, they are what motivate you to take action towards some things and avoid other things completely. Try to feel the benefits you could have if you work hard on your language learning.

“E” stands for Eye

When we say eye, we are referring your mind’s eye. With this eye you can see things what your physical eyes cannot yet see. See beyond now to make your future a reality. Have a new job in the Middle East? Are you about to volunteer for the Red Cross in an Arab country? Is your future spouse an Arab? How will your future look if you learn Arabic versus only talking in your native language? To make your visualization as realistic and detailed as possible, we recommend writing it down on paper just like you would write a story. Then, read it back to yourself every day and try to visualize its events in your mind’s eye. With time, you will be able to conjure up the visualization completely from memory, and use it to motivate yourself before your daily learning.

Using this method is a great way to create a motivating set of reasons to learn Arabic. By using your imagination, you can visualize vivid scenarios that represent anything you want to do with the language and everything you hope to become one day thanks to the language. If you can make the visualization sound and feel real, as real as though it will actually happen, then it will become a great learning motivation as your skills continue to grow.
