Let’s face facts. If you’re learning Arabic, one of the hardest things to do is find ways to practice speaking in Arabic. Moreover, this can be especially true for those learning to read and speak Arabic for beginners. Finding listening tools to practice with is pretty easy thanks to a Google search on the World Wide Web. Also, there are a number of websites where you can download books in Arabic to practice your reading skills in the language. There are even places that will critique your Arabic writing skill. However, finding someone to speak Arabic with might be easy in, say, Chicago where there are statistically more Arab native speakers living than in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for example. So, if you’re living Hattiesburg, what do you do?

Believe it or don’t, there are quite a number of other ways that you can practice your Arabic speaking skills without moving to Jordan or any of the other Arabic speaking countries. (Although that would be pretty cool, anyway, wouldn’t it?).

We digress.

Here are five of the top ways to practice your speaking skills in Arabic that will have you sounding like a native in no time at all.

Let’s Hear It From You!

When you’re studying in your room (or anywhere else you happen to be studying alone) read out loud. Then, trying your best to pronounce the words lust the right way, read it again. And again. And again – each time picking up your pace. What’s more, put some feelings into it and inflect those words! Soon you’ll have developed the muscles of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in your mouth and diaphragm which will allow you to make all of those unfamiliar sounds and pronounce those Arabic words you never though you could.

Think Before You Speak

Another problem that plagues Arabic language learners when speaking is not knowing what to talk about. However, if you plan what you want to say ahead of time, then you’ll know exactly what you want to say. Plus, you’ll also be practicing how to pronounce those new words you’ve learned, but you also know how to use them the right way! See? Who needs those Arabic speaking classes now?

Lather. Rinse. Repeat

You’ve all heard the wise old saying that says, “Practice makes perfect”, right? Well, not only is it just a wise old saying, but it’s also some great advice. This is the key to speaking Arabic perfectly. In our experience, the biggest obstacle facing Arabic learners is they don’t review. Fact is, you’re not going to learn Arabic just studying three times a week for one hour each day. You have to review in between studying. Then, review again in between each review. Remember: Practice makes perfect. As a result, you be speaking like a native in no time at all.

You’re Not Perfect

And that’s okay. You’re going to make mistakes. That’s okay, too. What if I told you that making mistakes can actually help you learn to speak Arabic faster? Why? Because you’ll learn from them and become better at it. So, whether you’re going out with friends to an Arabic restaurant or you want to ask that Muhammad guy from Syria in your Algebra class if he can help you with exponential equations, practice as much as you can. Who knows, maybe you’ll also find a language partner in the process.
