Whether it comes at the beginning of the word (initial), middle of the word (medial), or ending of the word (final). But firstly, notice that Taa is a long, horizontal curve with two dots above it, just like a smiley face. Do not forget that writing Arabic is from right to left when it is standing alone and looks like this “ت.” As in: (كتاب) which means book. And Haa, which is a letter in Arabic Alphabet, when you stop at it, as in مدرسة /madrasah/. As this blog is about the basics of Arabic, then this is what you need to know for now. Later on, when in advanced grammar, you will have more explanation of why we use Taa marbootah.
Another note to point out is that the
letter Taa can always connect itself from both sides unless a letter from the
first group precedes it. So, whether it comes in the middle of the word or at
the end, it is possible for the Taa to disconnect itself from preceding letters
if they are from the first group.
