أَهلًا وَسَهلًا!/ʼahlan wa sahlan/ Hello and Welcome!

Today, we’re excited to launch our new blog series we call Arabic for Life. The series is designed to teach you the basics of Arabic that you can use as you go about your daily life in the Middle East.

So, whether it’s taking a taxi to your new job or checking into a hotel on your tour of the Arab world, you’ll have the Arabic you need for life.

Good First Impressions

To get you started, this first lesson of Arabic for Life is all about learning some basic courtesy expressions, greetings, and other useful words and phrases that will get you started speaking Arabic and leave a long-lasting first impression on your new Arabic friends and neighbors.

First, you’ll see the word in English followed by the transliteration of the word and finally the word in Arabic. Don’t worry so much about reading the script yet; after all, this is your first day. We just want you to get used to seeing the word in Arabic now which will help you learn how to identify them better later.

Okay, let’s get started.
