Knowing some vocabulary for clothing in Arabic is useful in any situation if you traveled to the Middle East. For instance, you packed mostly light, summer clothes and it starts to be foggy and rainy. Thus, you’ll need a visit to the store and ask for a jacket (miʻTaf / مِعْطَف). Let’s presume you will need formal wear, therefore you’ll ask the salesman for a shirt (qameeS / قَميص), a pair of trousers (binTaal / بِنْطال) and a pair of shoes (HiTHaaʼ / حِذاء). Likewise, the ladies might prefer a skirt (tannoorah / تَنُّورَة) and a bag (Haqeebah / حَقيبَة). When used as adjectives, they would need to follow the gender of the noun. For example, black is ʼaswad / أَسْوَد, as in black trousers - بِنْطال أَسْوَد.
